Six Figures in Three Centuries (detail)

Possibly Hobbs, Montreal

circa 1906

The four Biblical figures are life-sized, as indicated by the viewer in silhouette at the mezzanine rail.

The Sea of Galilee scene with Jesus and his disciples dates to about 30 A.D. The tiny figure beneath the sail seems to be from the 18th or 19th century.

The hovering clouds and mysteriously suspended stone niche appear to defy gravity and visual logic, for a trompe l'oeil (trick of the eye) effect.
