Dalle de Verre in a Diamond Grid (detail)

Rault Brothers, France

circa 1957

The large St. Theresa window is actually installed inside out: the inch-thick dalle de verre extends on the exterior surface rather than inside the church.

The Raults usually intended the jewel-like glass to show best from inside the building, but at Little Flower the installation was reversed for some reason. In this photo we are seeing the "back" of the dalle glass, flattening the three-dimensional effect. Of course the window is attractive from both sides, but requires daylight behind for the best effect.
