Modernist Chapel with Two Modernist French Windows

Rault Freres, Rennes, France

2005

The original modernist chapel, influenced by Minoru Yamasaki s campus Master Plan, had corner fenestration, providing an ideal setting for the two modernist French windows that were to arrive some forty years later.

The Rault windows, uniquely among glass artists, use two forms of stained glass: conventional painted vitreous enamel for the figure, and dalle de verre (aka slab or faceted glass). The stained glass hovers as if free of gravity in front of the original and fortuitous corner glazing.
