Nearly any stained glass artist will tell you that this window is technically impossible, that none like it exist. But the Raults not only combined slab glass in the same windows as conventional painted figures, they set all of it in lead cames. Their work seems to be unique.

The Rault brothers rejected the standard practice of embedding the heavy inch thick slab glass in cement, instead using conventional quarter inch lead cames, heavily reinforced. They insisted that the vibrant, hand-chipped edges of dalle must remain open in order to refract as much light as possible.

Architects were dubious, but the sumptuous results are visible in hundreds of Rault installations in North America and France.
