Three Signatures (detail)

Frederic Rault, France

circa 1979

Hidden in the wordless scribbles of the Ten Commandments are the names of the three people most involved with the Gravelbourg project. Commandment III reads "F Rault France;" Commandment IV reads, "Paul Hanley Regina;" and Commandment V reads, "Bis[hop] Delaquis Gravelbourg." Delaquis was bishop of Gravelbourg from 1973 to 1995.

Paul Hanley was the partner of Wilfrid Burns, who founded Burns Hanley Church Supplies in Regina in the 1940s. Burns and Hanley were the Rault Studio's representatives in Western North America, and coordinated more than sixty stained glass installations between 1950 and 1985.
