The four structural components of these windows are all visible in this exterior close-up: 1. painted and fired flat glass for the face and body;
2. jewel-like chunks of dalle de verre extending 2 cm from the surface;
3. lead cames holding both types of glass in place; and
4. an iron bar holding the twelve panels which make up the window.
Most building owners install a layer of glass or Plexiglas over their windows to protect them from the elements and from accidents or vandalism.
