Reconciliation (also known as Confession)

Rault Freres (Brittany) France

circa 1960

The Catholic symbolism can be read like a poem: at the top, a radiant cross offers Christ's Forgiveness to all believers; two gloved hands represent the Church's power to forgive in Jesus’ name; the chains of Sin are broken, while a cleansing fire consumes a log.

Thus all traces of guilt are removed from the forgiven person.
