This photo shows the relationship of dalle de verre to the conventional stained glass. The seven blue "jewels" in Mary's crown and the various gold chunks are inch-thick dalle de verre (French for "slabs of glass").
The dalle de verre was handmade every autumn at the Rault studios in Rennes. It is 2cm (1 inch) thick, and was finished with jewellery hammers before being set in standard lead cames.
