Donor Panel, 1533

Valentin Bousch, Metz, France

In the spring of 2007, perhaps the oldest and most important window in Canada suddenly appeared on the floor of a Vancouver auction house. Three large panels depicting the Expulsion of Adam and Eve from Paradise were offered for sale after the death of a Vancouver collector.

The window's provenance includes William Randolph Hearst, after whose death in 1951 the Vancouver collector Fritz Ziegler acquired the window.

The creation date of 1533 is reversed in this photo.
