La Tour Builds His Fort at St Jean, circa 1630

McCausland, Toronto

circa 1928

In 1630, Claude de La Tour arrived at Fort St. Louis with an Anglo-Scottish expedition and tried unsuccessfully to induce his son Charles to surrender his last foothold of France in Acadia. Later, when the Scots at Port Royal became displeased with Claude, his son Charles offered Claude refuge near Fort St. Louis.
