Valentin Bousch, Metz, France
1533
The blonde male head above Christ is odd - not merely out of scale - but not identifiable in Genesis. Could it represent a man of 1533 - the Artist, perhaps? His gaze is fixed on God the Father and His orb, the author of the cosmic design. Christ is the pivotal figure of human history, and is the most carefully rendered of all the figures.
