Rault of Rennes, France
circa 1970
This spectacular window is an example of the Rault's completely original use of dalle de verre. Students at the Ursuline Convent in Bruno were invited to submit drawings for the designs of these windows, on the general theme of learning. This window seems to be about physics: atoms hurtling at the centre of a star while other stars dance in space. Meanwhile, a mythological Gryphon with wings of an eagle and the tail of a mammal clutches at textbooks and diplomas, expressing Youth's quest for knowledge of the Universe.
